Alerts: where to find them and what they mean
By the end: You'll know where to find every alert, understand what it says, and review the context before deciding what to do.
Before you start
- Safy is connected to your child's WhatsApp, and chat loading has finished.
When Safy detects a message that could be harmful, it creates an alert. Alerts are based on automatic analysis. An alert doesn't decide what happened — it points out what's worth checking.
Where alerts appear
- Pop-up — when Safy is open, a "🔔 New alert" window appears. When there are several, move between them with next and previous.
- Computer notification — when the Safy window isn't in front, a "New Alert – Safy" system notification appears.
- The "Alerts" tab — the full list of all alerts.
- The "Recent Alerts" card — in the System Status tab.
- SMS — on paid plans, an alert is also sent by SMS to your phone, and to an additional parent's number if you added one. See Adding another parent.
What an alert contains
- Time — when the message was sent.
- Offense Type — for example: Bullying, Sexual, Insulting, Social Exclusion, Anxiety / Fear, Emotional Distress, Fraud, Inappropriate for Children, Self Harm.
- Action — "Log" for an event kept on record, or "Alert" for an event that needs your attention.
- Reason — a short explanation of why the message was flagged.
- Chat and sender — where the message was sent and who sent it.
- Message and media — the flagged message, including any image, video or recording.
How to review an alert
- Read the reason and the flagged message.
- Click "View Context" to see the messages before and after it.
- Mark whether the alert was accurate: 👍 "Yes, accurate" or 👎 "False positive".
Your rating helps Safy improve. It doesn't delete the alert.
How to know it worked
The alert appears in the "Alerts" tab, and after you rate it, a badge next to it shows your rating.
If it doesn't work
- No alerts at all? First check that the system is working. See No new data or no alerts.
- No "View Context" button? Turn it on in Settings → System → "Show View Context Button".
- No notifications on your computer? They appear only when the Safy window isn't in front. Also check that Safy's notifications are allowed in your computer's settings.
