How to update Safy to a new version

By the end: You have the latest version of Safy installed.

Before you start

Safy is installed and running on your computer.
An internet connection.

Safy checks for updates every time it opens and whenever the computer wakes from sleep. It downloads the update on its own in the background, but installs it only when you confirm.

Installing a waiting update

When the update is ready, you'll see the notification "Safy Update Ready".
Click the Safy icon in the taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
Choose ↓ Restart to Install.
Wait for Safy to close and reopen.

Checking for updates manually

Click the Safy icon.
Choose Check for Updates.
If there's an update, you'll see Downloading Update with a percentage, then Restart to Install.

Required updates

If the "Update Required" window appears, your version is no longer supported. Click Restart and Update. Safy updates and reopens.

If the automatic update doesn't work

Download the latest version from the download page on the website.
Install it over your current version, like a normal installation. See Installing Safy on your computer.

Installing over your current version keeps your account, settings and WhatsApp connection. On Windows, the installer closes Safy on its own before it starts.

How to know it worked

The Safy icon menu shows a Version line with the new number, and there's no Restart to Install item waiting. See How to check which version is installed.

If it doesn't work

The menu shows "Update check failed"? Check your internet connection and choose Retry Update Check.
Stuck on Downloading Update? Keep Safy open for a few minutes. If it doesn't move, download the version from the download page and install it over the current one.
